This race was a head to head battle between North East 5k bronze medallist Mel Turner and and Sarah Wilkinson . Running in a very strong wind that swirled around the course Sarah moved straight into the lead with Mel in close pursuit, after 1.5k Mel moved into the lead and opened a gap which Sarah, despite running strongly, could never close. Mels winning time was 17mins 37 secs with Sarah crossing the line in 17 mins 54
