The Blaydon race

While Justine Heslop of Clapham was heading the women's field the main North East interest lay in the battle for local supremacy, Morag McDonnell, Emma Raven and Angela Hibbs fought it out in what was also a race for Chester supremacy. With the finish nearly in sight Morag, who had forced most of the pace, had to give way to Emma, who opened a 4 second gap, but Morag held on to within the last 150 metres when the very determined Angela Hibbs forced herself past, but even her finish could not close on Emma who claimed the top North East prize of £500. With a time of 33 mins 16secs to Angela's 33.20 and Morag's 33.22. Sarah Wilkinson 11th in 34.43 rounded off an easy team victory. Tracy Laws 12th in 35.11 improved on last years run by 79 secs, Claire Simpson 35.54 rounded off the Chester Squad.
