National 4-Stage Relay- Sutton Coldfield - 18th October 2008

Chester Le Street Ladies added one more medal to their growing tally with a truly battling performance on a sunny but windy day in Birmingham's Sutton Park when they claimed the bronze medal in the National ladies 4 stage road relay championships.
On the opening leg Melissa Turner (15.13) in her national A team debut gave a spirited and gritty performance to bring the team home in 20th position .Club captain Aly Dixon (14.46) although not at her sparkling best battled her way through the opposition to lift the team into 9th position.
Freya Murray just back from a month in Colorado USA put in a truly brilliant performance recording the fastest time of the day (13.50) to lift the Cestrians into 2nd place, setting up a nail biting final leg.
Aldershot & Farnam were away and clear for gold but Maxine Czarnecka set of in second place with a chasing pack in pursuit . As they approached the lake for the final time Maxine still held 2nd spot but internationals Julie Potter (Charnwood) and Fay Fullerton (Havering & Maybrook) were closing at a rapid rate, Potter kicked past with around 600 to go ,but into the final climb Maxine still held onto 3rd, at this point Fullerton made her supreme effort, but with her team mates screaming at her from the road side Maxine refused to give and summoned up one final lung bursting effort to secure the bronze . Opening up a 3 second gap as she hit the line to the delight of the North East supporters.
